A Tuxedo is another term for a
dinner jacket
used in
North American English
.
When dinner jackets first arrived in the
United States
, they did by way of the
Tuxedo Park Club
in
Tuxedo Park, New York
.
In modern parlance, the term "Tuxedo" is often misapplied to all forms of
formal
,
semi-formal
, and non
T-shirt
clothing, including the
horrendously ostentatious suits worn at proms and weddings
, of which
Edward the VII
would have probably thought disgusting.
