The Wing Commander series of
video games
by
Chris Roberts (producer)
while at
Origin Systems
was a popular futuristic space-combat franchise that was immensely popular, spawning several canon games, spin-offs, cartoons,
open-source
Wing Commander remakes
, and a film.
Earlier games were 2-d
sprite-based games
, but from the third full title,
Wing Commadner III: The Heart of the Tiger
, the series had switched to accelerated 3-D
polygonal rendering
and
full motion video
for its
cut-scenes
.
