The IDLE
extension
to
IMAP
was described in
RFC 2177
. It provides a method for immediate notification of new
eMail
messages in an efficient manner. Most
mail server
software supports the extension, but a surprising number of major
mail user agents
, such as
Apple Computer
's
Mail.app
do not.
