Montgomery High School (New Jersey) introduced their ice hockey program in 1997, fielding a
junior varsity squad for the 1997-1998 season coached by
Devon Rubin after his brother
Noel accepted but later left the position to focus on other clubs. In 1999, they reached the state tournament in their first year of varsity play, losing narowly to the highly ranked
Summit team.
The team would retire most of its core players after the 2000 season, but in 2005 a much smaller, faster, and deeper team was eliminated from the state tournament by
Morris Knolls. In 2006, Montgomery defeated Morris Knolls to advance to their first public school final match, which they would lose in overtime to
Randolph, 2-1.
