The
Nvidia drivers that came with the
Jaunty Jackalope release of
Ubuntu GNU/Linux were highly
unstable on
my laptop. The most recent version of Nvidia's
proprietary drivers for AMD64 Linux and the GeForce M9 were 180.51, although 180.44 was the latest available in the distribution. Among the changes in 180.51 were stability fixes, which so far, appear to be doing the trick.
One can either fetch the drivers and install them manually from Nvidia, or more easily add
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ricotz/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main to /etc/apt/sources.list and then run
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade to get the most recent drivers.
