IPad identifies as a mobile device

The Apple iPad self-identifies as a mobile device using the string *Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B334b Safari/531.21.10* but Apple Computers writes in its developer documentation that you shouldn't treat it like a mobile browser.

Now I'm all for the theory that you shouldn't serve different pages based on user-agent, but given that this is the current industry practice in this post-iPhone era, it's messed-up that Apple did that.
